Homogenization Theory of Space-Time Metamaterials

چکیده
We present a general framework for the homogenisation theory of space-time metamaterials. By mapping to frame co-moving with modulation, we derive analytical formulae effective material parameters travelling wave modulations in low frequency limit: electric permittivity, magnetic permeability and magnetoelectric coupling. Remarkably, show that is exact at all frequencies absence back-reflections, when condition relaxed. This allows us Fresnel drag experienced by light through travelling-wave electromagnetic media.

A Simple First-Principles Homogenization Theory for Chiral Metamaterials
We discuss a simple first-principles homogenization theory for describing, in the long-wavelength limit, the effective bianisotropic response of a periodic metamaterial composite without intrinsic chiral and magnetic inclusions. In the case where the dielectric contrast is low, we obtain a full analytical description which can be considered the extension of Landau-Lifshitz-Looyenga effective-me...

متن کاملThe challenge of homogenization in metamaterials
The problem of homogenization, i.e. substantial reduction of the electrical size of the average lattice constant, of electromagnetic left-handed (LH), or more generally composite right/left-handed (CRLH) metamaterials (MTMs), is presented. The undesirable effects of an electrical very large structural unit cell are explained and illustrated by full-wave simulations and experiments with CRLH mus...
متن کاملA Generalized Space-Time Mathematical Homogenization Theory for Bridging Atomistic and Continuum Scales
A generalized space-time mathematical homogenization theory, which constructs an equivalent continuum description directly from molecular dynamics (MD) equations, is developed. The noteworthy theoretical findings of this work are: (i) the coarse scale continuum equations (PDEs) obtained from the homogenization of MD equations are identical to those obtained from the classical homogenization of ...
متن کاملOn homogenization of space-time dependent degenerate random flows
We study a diffusion with time-dependent random coefficients. The diffusion coefficient is allowed to degenerate. We prove an invariance principle when this diffusion is supposed to be controlled by another one with time independent coefficients.
